Need some help with the metro/Korail
I need some help with the terminology because I don't know what the train I need to take is called. I hope I can explain this so that someone can understand what I mean.
First, there is what I call the slow train. I believe it is called the subway or also the metro and that for less than $2 you get anywhere in Seoul. Am I right that it is called the metro or subway? Second, there is a train that goes faster than the metro but it's not the same as the KTX trains. At least I don't think it is. The only time that I've been on this train it cost me about $4 to get from Pyeongtaek to Seoul Station and you also get assigned seats. What is this type of train of called? Where can I find the schedule and routes of this train? The reason I am asking is because I need to get to Seoul from Pyeongtaek on Sunday morning faster that the metro can get me there. I need to get to Hakdong station(731) on the 7 line. I was told to take the fast train from Pyeongtaek to the Express Bus Terminal station and then the metro to Hakdong. I'm just not sure how the fast train works. |

Koreans don't use the word "Metro", Just Subway(Local stops) and Korail. The Korail is nice, faster, pricier, stops less, and has a restroom. Suggest you take a bilingual friend to Pyongtaek Station and ask at the desk. They have full schedules for both. Be aware that often there are fewer trains on Sundays. Korail stops at Yongsan Station also. Very convenient. Ask how close you can get to Hakdong on the Korail.

Re: Need some help with the metro/Korail
Try www.korail.go.kr. Click on English. It will give you all the train schedules from city to city. As far as trains go there are three types. Mugunhwa-Orange in color and stops in about every city(slow) next is Samual Ho. Fast and only stops in certain cities. It was the fast train before the KTX. Green and silver in color. It is an easy system to learn.
