SOFA Status
Hey All -
I'm hoping someone with a bit more experience might be able to help me out. Here's the situation. I signed on with a company that contracts with the US military back in mid-March. At the time, my company said they were going to try get SOFA status for myself and another co-worker. I was told by my HR contact that they sent off the documents to the ROK. Now, however, over three months have passed since the documents were sent off, and it seems as if there's been no progress. We received an update back in April saying that all the necessary documents were received. Whenever I've contacted my company to check the status after that, though, they've simply told me that they've received no no updates. As best as we can tell, the documents are still sitting with the ROK. I guess my biggest questions are: 1. Has anyone ever had any experience like this? How long does the process usually take? I'd just really like to know if this kind of thing is normal or not. 2. Is there any way I can check on the status of my application myself? If so, who or where can I contact? It would be nice to have a little bit more than "the documents were received" and "we haven't gotten any updates". I'd appreciate any information/advice anyone might have. |

I'm assuming you are in the US? Your profile doesn't tell me much. There is a Sofa Office on Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul. If you think that might help, have your Co. call them.

Re: SOFA Status
I'm actually down in Daegu right now. I just haven't gotten around to filling out the profile yet.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try dig up the contact information and pass it on. I'm still curious, though, if it normally takes this long. I'd like to think that it'd take less than 3 months to get something like this done. Knowing how bureaucracies can be, though... I mean, how long has this taken for other people? |
