Taxing the Stock Market for illegals?

Should we raise taxes back to 80 percent? The rate before Reagan took office? Also, should we tax returns on the stock market and give this money in social services to illegal immigrants? This is what Nanc Pelosi said:
"We Democrats are going to address this issue after the election when we take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to 80% tax rates on the rich (these rates use to apply to families with incomes over $60,000 - the very rich) and we will be able to take at least 30% of all current lower Federal Income Tax tax payers off the roles and increase government income substantially. We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest."

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied: "We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long ways to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as "Americans"."

Re: Taxing the Stock Market for illegals?

When did Pelosi make those remarks? Although she is a left bank democrat, it seems out of step with some of her recent comments when asked about tax policy. I simply don't see how a tax raise of that magnitude could take place in this day and time. Now they are sneakily trying to get a new tobacco products tax through at one dollar per pack of smokes and room for an increase of up to ten dollars per cigar. That was in todays news. Ten dollars per cigar is totally outrageous. They may drive the cigar makers out of business, then where will that ten dollars per cigar tax revenue come from? I've said it before and I'll say it again, the republicans under the likes of Tom delay blew it bigtime but the new team of Pelosi and Reid are without a doubt the most unimpressive leaders of congress I can recall in my lifetime.

Those comments are likely just before the 2006 elections as she states, "when the Deomcrats take congress," in her statement.

I got a long interview in e-mail, but deleted the e-mail after I posted this. I will look for the source.

The long interview was a fabrication. Check it out on Snopes.

The truly sad thing is that you thought it was real. I think this shows how little you know about Democratic leaders or Democratic policies. I'd suggest you start following democratic campaigns rather than trust whatever friends and family forward to your email.

Re: Taxing the Stock Market for illegals?

It may not be real, but I won't take the 100% word from a site called Snopes.

Doutes, you need to learn a few things.

One, this is a forum, not CNN or Fox News. If I get an e-mail that I think will make good discussion, I will post it.

Two, I posted I got this from an e-mail. I was up front from where it came from. You see unlike liberals, I always post the source and let people make up their minds and do research on their own. I don't claim the Evil Bush Administration is taking my rights and claim 9-11 was a Bush plan with no evidence.

So, maybe you should read my disclosures and keep your suggestions to yourself.

Or maybe we should talk about Bush Guard records made with Microsoft Word. I guess I am as good as a source checker as Dan Rather.

First...Snopes is a website the debunks fake emails and other urban legends by doing research.

Second, unlike liberals??? Have you ever listened to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, or Bill O'Reilly. They lie all the f**king time. Read a book by Al Franken and the last 50 pages are the bibliography for all the facts he states.

and finally, Bush didn't plan 9-11 but he sure as hell used it for his own plans. He had plans before that to invade Iraq and they are taking away our rights. But hopefully it won't go on for long.

First of all, Snopes is a reputable website that has verified or debunked email rumors for years. I've referenced the website many times before, and you haven't objected to their accuracy in the past.

Secondly, you didn't post the source. You posted where you recieved the information. An email from a friend is not a source of a quote, unless the quoted item is your friend's email. The source is where this information was first published, which you never provided and probably can't.

Dan Rather lost his job because of the Guard Reporting fiasco. Your posts are obviously not held to the same standard as his reporting, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't question your political acumen. If your credulous enough to have posted these Pelosi "quotes," we should question your knowledge of national politics.

You want to have your cake and eat it too. To be able to post outrageous polical items and outright lies, but not be held even the teensiest bit accountable for posting those items.

Re: Taxing the Stock Market for illegals?

Well, the last time I actually watched pelosi being questioned about her ideas for tax policy, she seemed to come down in the middle of the road, populist area. She basically is towing what seems to be the new party line which is : we much raise taxes on the rich. Her statements and this policy is about as bland a political answer that there is, it is a non- answer really, intended only to placate thos populists whose support she wants to maintain. It's a pity and a real shame that her and that other democratic guy, Reid, the apparent leaders of the congress, can't come out with some real specific ideas and share them publicly. But then they don't seem to have had any real concrete ideas between them about Iraq or anything else. I researched her statements about tax policy on the web and I couldn't find that particular statement. The big problems in taxes are ahead of us and the democrats can make or break this country depending on their moves. The AMT needs to be indexes to the high end or done away with, I do not need to pay ten dollars more for a good cigar, and the estate tax needs to die out totally.
