Deficit Falls to $205 Billion, under reported

When Clinton was in office and the Deficit fell, it was reported on every channel for weeks. When it falls during the Bush Administration it get's a tiny, buried page in Brietbart. It got a whole 2 paragraphs from the AP.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation's budget deficit will drop to $205 billion in the fiscal year that ends in September, less than half of what it was at its peak in 2004, according to new White House estimates.

President Bush planned to discuss the figures in an afternoon appearance.

The new figure is considerably smaller than original estimates. In February, the White House predicted that this year's deficit would be $244 billion because of stronger-than-expected revenue collections. The deficit hit a peak of $413 billion in 2004 and was $248 billion last year.

Fell??? Um, I think there was a surplus when Clinton left office...i could be wrong. Bush created the deficit. Why should he get reported on when he makes a little of it go away?

Sorry that Pres. Bush is not getting news covered that doesn't involve him lying or butchering the American People...I mean language.

and it's "gets" not "get's" Not to get anal. Sorry

It is usually the administration in charge that gets the credit or scorn for what ever the subject of the day is. Congress is equally important and should always share the stage. The budget under Clinton would not have ever been balanced if not for the republican congress. The apparent surplus that was apparently in the U.S. Treasury when Clinton left office was just that 'apparent'. One who puts faith in government reported surpluses and minuses is putting their faith in the wrong place. It was largely Clinton/Gore, along with Greenspan, who were responsible for the dot.com bubble, irrational exhuberance, and the inevitable pop that was the main culprit in wiping out the apparent government surplus and many working peoples retirement 401k's. Research the history of stock options laws and CEO compensation and you will find that Clinton?Gore headed off a major chance to reform the way CEO's are compensated in a good way. This is what led to the artificial public inflation via all channels of communication by CEO's and others that led to the Enrons and World coms.

Re: Deficit Falls to $205 Billion, under reported

Stock Options have always been the golden goose for top management. It has always been the most abused area of compensation for top management. Look at the current whole foods problem, the ceo anonimously attacks his competitors and hypes his own stock on the web. back at the beginning of the clinton/gore era, there was a great chance to change the system as it pertains to accounting for ceo and other compensation. Clinton/Gore are always touted as being the smartest guys whe were ever in charge of the white house. why then did they not grab the reigns on this one, with their supposed remarkable vision, and change the system? because they are just politicians who need the big money. here is a link to an old draft paper on the web that gives an excellent background on this subject. If I ever hear one more of the willingly led boast about the 'clinton surplus' without having an idea in their little brain about what that ficticious surplus really was I'll puke.

Well, let;s see Clinton balanced the budget, BUT in his 8 years the national debt went up 40%!!!! The sheeple always think a balanced budget or surplus's actually means something. Got news for you, it is useless when you borrow money like a fool. Take a look at the national debt during the Clinton years and you will see I am dead on.

Re: Deficit Falls to $205 Billion, under reported

Clinton supporters also tend to forget what drives annual budgets. A large piece is defense. Clinton and his congress cut back, substantially, on defense spending. That was a significant portion of the pie. We have more of a wartime budget now, it has contributed to the annual budget woes. If not for the war, the current tax policy would have this country rolling in cash. personally I feel we should add about another third as much to defense and cut out all of the needless pork. It is relatively easy in a financial sense to balance the annual budget of this nation. The overall budget is a small part of the full debt of this country which, is a problem that far outweighs the annual budget pluses or minuses. Bushes tax package has done wonders to help with the budget but, not so much any of the other credit problems our nation faces. Vote for Ron Paul and a republican or independent congress and watch this nation get back on the road to greatness.
