Korean hostages and America's action.
You know, 23 Korean hostages kidnapped by Taliban in Afghanistan. And two Korean hstages killed by them. But U.S. government have not helped us before now. You only looking at Korean hostages. How are you do that ?
Our government sent in Korean troops in Afghanistan by America's demand. If the hostages are American, you would save direct them. your government said only this; America won't negotiate with terrorist. But you have to know this, we are know well about your government. I jsut don't understand why our government help you. Are we really a friendly nation ? is it right ? Last edited by shsong21 : 08-12-2007 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: Korean hostages and America's action.
Let's get one thing straight first, America did not "demand" anything of the Korean Government, and the 200 man contingent that Korea has on the ground is only medical and logistical support anyway.
As for these missionaries who got captured, they were advised on MULTIPLE occasions that it was not safe to do what they planned to do, and now we are supposed to come running to save them? Not to mention the fact that the Korean Government seems to be doing plenty of negotiating on their own, if they really needed US support, I am sure they would ask for it. Have you also thought about the fact that they are not military members? I am not saying that being civilians makes them lesser people, but I am saying that is makes them less of a tactical priority. That might sound cold and cruel, but it is a plain hard fact. On top of that, I am sure the US troops have more than enough mission to keep them busy without being side tracked to go looking for people who were told not to go there in the first place! It sucks that they got captured, but what did you expect? I feel sorry for them and their families, I am sure this is a very bad time for them, but I must also say that they should have heeded the warnings given to them as well. |

Re: Korean hostages and America's action.
I'm sure the US is doing whatever behind the scenes work they can do but other than that what can we do? The only thing we could do is some type of military operation and we said that we would only do that if the Korean government wanted us to. The Korean governament said no.

Sorry, Shsong-
Both posters are correct. The Korean govenment told the group NOT to go. It is illegal in Afghanistan for Christians to attempt to convert Muslims. We ALL hope they come home soon. NO ONE these days will deal or trade hostages for prisoners. Can you understand that? That would cause MORE kidnapping! The Taliban are bandits-hated by their own country's government. They know they will all be killed as soon as the hostages are freed. The whole world is with the Koreans. The Taliban wants to live longer, so they will not easily release all their hostages. The Afghan Government has the Taliban prisoners they want. The U.S. can't help. |

Re: Korean hostages and America's action.
Nobody really knows what goes on behind closed doors between the US and Korean Governments. Don't second guess the what happening with this situation. I'm sure that the US is doing all they can to bring this situation to an end. I hope that it ends soon with remaining hostages released unharmed.

Because it is not a good solution. you know, Taliban wants their friend's release from Afghan government. Afghan government have received some control from U.S. gov. So, ur gov. can command it to Afghan gov. Can u understand me ? If Taliban some members get free from Afghan gov. prison, Taliban also will free Korean hostages. understand it ? But ur gov. said; we never do it ! maybe, do u know it ? America's some woman reporter have been kidnapped in Afghanistan long ago. That time, Taliban said the same; we are want to our member's release from Afghan government's prison. So, your gov. give instruction direct to Afghan gov. to save her. So, she is get free direct from Taliban. Do you know this ? If she is not American, what has becom of her ? your gov. will say like this, 'we never negotiate with terrorist ! ' It is two face your government ! Last edited by shsong21 : 08-13-2007 at 11:56 AM. |

We understand perfectly what you are saying. And you are wrong about being two-faced! The US can influence, but NOT demand any government to do what we want. The Korean Government understands that giving prisoners to the Taliban is not a good idea. The Korean Government has not requested anyone to release prisoners. Because that is not possible.
I don't remember any female reporter story? Can someone else answer that? |

The only one that comes to mind is the Christain Science reporter who was abducted in Baghdad but was released 3 months later. The US denied paying a ransom and so did the magazine that she worked for. I don't think there was ever any word on why they released her. But I can think of many American contractors who were beheaded because we wouldn't negotiate. Remember Daniel Pearl? |

May be that was the female one, it was in Iraq.
I remember Daniel Pearl's name. He was an American Journalist, and Jewish. Muslims do not like Jews. The Country of Israel is missing from their maps. He was killed in Karachi, Pakistan. |

Re: Korean hostages and America's action.
Different country but similar situation. They wanted the release of Pakistani terror suspects.
