Your credit.....
I know i've posted about this before "YOUR CREDIT".
BUT.....bare with me.... I have recently took over a Platoon of Soldiers who are very young, when I initial counsel them I ask them do you know what your credit report says? Most have no clue what a credit report is, then I start telling them about how many times over the last few years "our" SSN's have been stolen..... Then I talk about what credit is and how it can hurt you, even having NO credit can hurt you becasue you have not proven yourself to creditors.... Also, I have been in the customer service line at our PX over the last few weeks and Soldiers are getting turned down for the Star Card.....THE EASIEST CARD TO GET...... So why am I writting this.....To give a list of where you can check your credit, for free or free trial..... Here they are.... Right now the best deal is privacymatters123.com 1 dollar for 1 week and then $24.00 a month....BUT when you call to cancel your trial period they will give you 1 YEAR for $24.00. You get all 3 credit reports and scores. Others are below and there deals for what they have.... Also don't forget annualcreditreport.com a yearly free credit report... Re: Your credit.....
Chuck, the chapel here at Humphreys and also Yongsan offers a class called Financial Peace University. It's a financial program by a guy named Dave Ramsey. You may have heard of him, he has radio show and he recently started doing financial commentary on Fox. Anyway, it's a 13 week video class that teaches how to get of debt, how to save for emergencies, retirement, and college, understanding credit, investments, insurance, mortgages, and real estate and even how to bargain for a better price on something. It's normally a $200 class but the chapel pays for everything. We just finished taking the classes and I highly recommend anyone to take it, especially young soldiers.
It is a religious based program but it is not preachy or over zealous in pushing religion. The most he does is quote a Proverb every once in while. My favorite was "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave of the lender." The next class is in January, when you counsel your soldiers you should recommend them take this class.

If one person writes the checks on one account, why would anyone want to worry about a credit score? Anyone who has more than two credit cards deserves what they get. We have two, and only use them in case of emergency.
Two people with access to one account is asking for trouble! Don't do that. Give a percentage to your spouse monthly, if you must, and keep your checking accounts separate. If one of you runs out too soon, that person must explain it to the other. Keep the maximum amount available on your credit cards at a figure both agree upon, maybe $2000. Enough to get to a relative's house in an emergency. |

As much as I agree with what you've said, you were brought up during a time when money "ment" something, "credit" was around but not as it is today. You understand money Mr. Joe...this younger generation does not. Creditors, see a Military person and say "come in here and you can take this $3000 home stereo home with you right now". The next creditor does the same thing. And it goes on and on until the the Soldier is so far in-debt he is writting bad check the day after payday. Oh.... and I have not written a check in several years.....Debit card only... Bills are paid through USAA Bill web-pay. I agree also with only having 2 credit cards, Most pepole now a days have 5-6, becasue again the creditor says you are "pre-approved" and all the Soldier see's is "PRE-APPROVED" he does not look at the 29% intrest.... This thread is just to bring "light".....it's not about a credit score unless you are buying a car, house or something like that..... Most people do not even know they have had "Identy theft" until they go to buy a major purchase or they recieve a letter from a collection agency saying they owe money......

Re: Your credit.....
Most credit card companies/ banks are now offering this service for free or for a small fee to their customers. If you have a credit card, as almost everyone does today, you can access your card account on line to get the information. My amex card account offered the service for a small fee but my card account from washington mutual gives you your fico score and other credit information for free at their web sight. Cheers!

Re: Your credit.....
The Stars and Stripes had an article today about not being able to access annualcreditreport.com. They gave this website to download the request form. www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/include/requestformfinal.p df
