Don Imus-some may have heard him-He is often somewhat caustic and irreverend, but comical and easy to listen to -most of the time. He got national attention when he repeated, verbatim, what his producer, Bernard McGuirck had said moments before! No one got offended at McGuirck's words, perhaps because he was of the same racial persuasion as the girls on the ball team?
But when Imus repeated the words- It was like the NAACP HQ had been hit by lightning! The cantankerous Imus was fired April 12 by CBS Radio amid a firestorm of controversy over his "nappy-headed hos" remark about the Rutgers University women's basketball team. Citadel Broadcasting Corp. announced Thursday, that Imus was coming back to the morning drive time on New York-based WABC-AM. "We are ecstatic to bring Don Imus back to morning radio," said WABC radio President and General Manager Steve Borneman. "Don's unique brand of humor, knowledge of the issues and ability to attract big-name guests is unparalleled." "Imus will return with his longtime newsman, Charles McCord, and other members of his morning team, Citadel said in announcing the move." (It did not specifically mention Bernard McGuirk, the producer who instigated Imus on the Rutgers comment and was fired as well. Now wasn't that nice! ) Every radio has an off switch, and you do not need to be registered to vote with your switch! |
