Dollar Value and Recession
American Expat's living over seas tend to feel the pinch of the decline in the value of the U.S. dollar before CONUS residents, depending on the exchange rate of the country. The Korean Won has gained much value since the 'IMF' days of 1998. The question of our times is should the U.S. allow the dollar to continue to decline, hoping it will ultimately bring back a rush of foreign investors who want to buy the cheap dollar or should the powers allow the U.S. to go into recession? There is so much dollar credit in the world today that many think nothing the federal reserve does will prevent the dollar from sinking more, even if they cease lowering rates and allow a recession to 'cleanse' the financial system. How has the decline in the value of the dollar effected your lives in Korea? Have prices for off base goods and services increased substantially over the past few years? Link to an artilce about why we need a recession:

Re: Dollar Value and Recession
I remember when the Asian financial crisis hit in 1998, most of the Korean merchants in the SongTan area suddenly wanted everything paid for in dollars and they even started to jack up prices in dollars, fearing the won would deteriorate further. Are they now refusing dollars and only taking won, have they jacked up the prices in their own currency, because they fear the further decline of the dollar?
