I'd Like to visit the Hump some day
I’d love to visit the Hump some day. I was there 35 years ago and things seem to have changed a lot.
I took a lock at the area on Google Earth and at least there are some things that are still recognizable. I guess some things just don’t change as fast as others. I had a Korean friend who was a Taekwondo instructor there at Humphrey’s (both on base and off). He lived in Anjong-ri at the time, but I lost contact with him years ago. If I was to find him, it would give me a good excuse to come over for a visit. However, I need help from someone in the area in order to find information as to his current status. Heck; at our age, he may not even have a current status, if you know what I mean. I would have to make arrangements to visit on post, I’m sure, but it would be nice just to see the place again. I know that some of you are wondering “who in the world” would want to visit the Anjung-ri area? That is probably a good question. I have a little information to go on as for as finding my friend (Pak) if some one would like to help. Johnnie Rouse |

Re: I'd Like to visit the Hump some day
I'm here at the Hump. I can try to help you...I'll be here until July 09...
The next 3 weeks are going to be long and drawn out but I could try after that.... I believe that you will be amazed at the changes, but i'll bet there are still some of the same buildings standing that were here when you were here....

Re: I'd Like to visit the Hump some day
Thank you for your response.
I worked in the turbine engine shop at what was then the 45th Trans Co.-GS-DS. From the Google Earth view, it appears that the same hanger building is still there. Pak had a Taekwondo (TKD) school off post that was next door (north side) to a large elementary school. That elementary school was on the left side of the old road that went to Pyeongteak. I can’t tell for sure, but it looks like the elementary school may still be there, at least from what I can see on G.E. There’s no telling if Pak, or his, by now 35 year old son would even still have the place. It may take a lot of information to go on, in order to locate him. I have some background that may help, but I’m not sure that it wouldn’t be better (easier) to PM or telephone the information. Maybe you should tell me what’s best for you. |

Re: I'd Like to visit the Hump some day
In viewing G.E., I can’t tell for sure, But I think the elementary school I’m talking about is still there.
Form the Drive Though gate headed north you come to a large intersection with the old road that comes from the walk through gate.Take the old road that veers 45 degrees to the right. From there the next intersection looks like a four lane road, after crossing that road go passed six roads all but one are only on your right. The school yard will then be on the left side. Can someone tell me if I’m right about this or not? Johnnie Rouse |
