AIDS Toll May Reach 100 Million in Africa

Wow! That is a staggering number. Over 100 million in Africa over the next 25 years. Off course, these are the UN's numbers and I am sure they are pushing these numbers to get further funding, but if the numbers are true they are staggering to say the least.

Quote:
In the worst case, sub-Saharan Africa, it has been devastating. And the next 25 years of AIDS promise to be deadlier than the first.

AIDS could kill 31 million people in India and 18 million in China by according to projections by U.N. population researchers. By then in Africa, where AIDS likely began and where the virus has wrought the most devastation, researchers said the toll could reach 100 million.
I fear there may be no way to help Africa. I know Bill gates donated well over $1 billion to fight AIDS in Africa and Ted Turner donated $1 billion to the UN. The problem is with education and corruption. The money simply doesn't get to the people. Also, how do you help countries that simply don't understand the disease and refuse to wear contraceptives? It is hardly ever the woman's choice that a condom is used and rape is frequent in Africa.

I have also read that African males believe that having sex with a virgin will rid them of AIDS. I am sure that is more in the tribal areas, but that shows just what the world is dealing with.
