Talking Time for a serious discussion!

Here is a serious question for all the gentlemen out there. I will award 100 points to anyone who can tell me the origin of the stripper/juicy dance pole. I ask this because I am seriously concerned after reading this:

Porn star Jenna Jameson has described some risks of pole dancing:

Quote:
"Almost every dancer has bunions, corns, and bone spurs on their heels. And they all learn to live with constant sprained ankles. I've seen girls rupture their implants from hitting the pole wrong."

100 points to the first person who can tell me the documented facts on the dance pole. Did an ancient king get borded one day and say, "I gotta have a pole!" :p

I'm going to say the old Maypole from years ago sort of evolved, and the original symbolism (Starts with P------ ends in S) still "holds" or "stands". Whatever. (The one in loveland park in Cheju-Do is horizontal.)
