Yeah, you're right on this, mea culpa. When I read the figures, I saw that crime is fairly widespread through the US and isn't isolated in specific regions. If I had posted about forced rapes, Alaska would have been at the top of the list instead. I also assumed that murders would be a crime least affected by various state laws, whereas property crimes may vary because of differences in reporting.

However, after reading some more on the web, it seems that you're right.

Alaska has, by far, the highest rate of rape in the country with 85.1 rapes per 100,000 people. The next closest state is New Mexico, with 54.6 rapes per 100,000 people. My mistake is that it wasn't forcible rape, but all forms of rape.
