While we are at it, let's allow the military to unionize. Then when the US goes to war, we can ask all the soldiers to vote if they want to go or not. Off course, as long as they do the research they can vote. Yeah right!

There is ample evidence that Bush did lie prior to the invasion of Iraq. At least there is enough evidence to warrant an independent investigation of the matter; however, the Republican controlled Congress won't allow that. I'm not going to go into this at length; instead, I'll just leave a few websites to check out on the matter of the neocon lies about the war.
http://www.bushlies.net/pages/9/
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/6981

The following article from Salon is also enlightening about the cherrypicking and stovepiping of intelligence before the war.
"The New Pentagon Papers"
Karen Kwiatkowski, a high-ranking military officer reveals how Defense Department extremists suppressed information and twisted the truth to drive the country to war.
http://dir.salon.com/story/opinion/f...eon/index.html

Seymour Hersh has written extensively on the cherrypicking and stovepiping of intelligence prior to the war.
http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?031027fa_fact

Hersh has a reputation of having some of the best sources within the Pentagon and the C.I.A. I recommend his book, Chain of Command

Joseph Wilson's The Politics of Truth is also an account of the deceptions used to bolster the case for war.

There are a number of other good books on this topic as well, so there is a lot of documented evidence to prove that Bush and the neocons cooked up the war to acheive their political and geopolitical objectives. It was part of a propaganda campaign to exploit the hysteria of the American public after 9-11, and it worked rather well.

Also, the justification of the war based on human rights is disingenuous. Human rights violations is an area which comes under the responsibility of the United Nations. As a matter of fact, the human rights violations that Saddam is guilty of almost exclusively occurred in the 80's, a time when Ronnie Reagan just winked and patted Saddam on the wrist because Saddam was "our good buddy." Historically speaking, the U.S. has consistently ignored human rights violations in those countries that have a "beneficial" relationship with the U.S., serving the interests of the U.S., while condemning the human rights violations in countries that do not play ball the way the U.S. wants them to. So, as far as the U.S. is concerned, the human rights question has been too politicized to become a reason for invading a sovereign country.

As a result of Bush's illegal war against Iraq and his phony "war on terror," at present, the U.S. has lost its moral authority to even speak out about human rights violations, much less to take action, because of its own human rights problems of Guantanomo Bay, Abu Ghraib and secret C.I.A. renditions. Much of the world now sees the U.S. as an aggressor nation that poses the greatest threat to world peace and the future of humanity.

I think you may want to read Human Rights Watch 2001 report my man on the things that Billy Boy let by. AI mentions serveral things as well and then there is the US State Dept report. Regardless of who would of been elected in 2000, 9/11 would of happen and we would of invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. When this goes to trial and the judge renders his decison, this dude will then realize that he could of tried other ways to get out of the military that were less taxing.

Seriously, any website titled "bushlies" is not going to be respected as a source in any legitimate debate. The funnier thing is that your second two sources conflict with your first two and say that Bush didn't lie. The intel failures prior to 9/11 and OIF are well known and have been investigated many times. This has never been equated to the administration lying to the American public. That doesn't mean the administration is without fault with regards to those intel failures, but that's a whole other argument.

It seems these books are a part of a propaganda campaign to exploit the hysteria of the American public during the Iraq war, and we'll see how well it works.

"Much of the world now sees the U.S. as an aggressor nation that poses the greatest threat to world peace and the future of humanity."

What poll did you get your research from? How do you sunstantiate these claims? Are you military, or prior service? or are you just one of those hippy extremists........
I like the fact that one German soldier refuse to fight, and stand up for what was morally and ethically right. There is no justification for the eradication of an entire society. This is not our intent! World conquest is not our intent!
The survival of humanity is.
Do not mistaken our kindness for weakness.

I like the fact that 1LT Watada stands up for what he believes in but the fact of the matter is: He swore to defend the constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign, and domestic.
It's simple, he must honor that contract or suffer the consequences. He knew what he was doing when he joined the military. Nobody held a gun to his head.

Maybe he didn't know the Army kills people. He could have thought the Army went out into the woods and roasted marshmallows. Oh wait... that's the Cub Scouts!!

I can't remember which news show had something about this a month ago. Certain Canadian MP's don't favor US Soldiers getting out of combat because they volunteered for military service. I don't know if it is that they don't want to fight after volunteering or they learned that Canada is try to legalize marijuana.
