Are video games out of control?

If you look at Grand Theft Auto and 50 Cents new game you will see a disturbing trend of extreme violent in video games played by the youth of today.

I remember when I was young I played Pacman and Donkey Kong. I would say increased technology has brought about increase violence and nudity in our video games. This video is a comical clip on just how far we have come.

They may be.....But it depends on "you" being a parent, and how "you" teach your children about them.

Remember the Road Runner and the Coyote? That coyote was beat and hurt in EVERY clip. What about the 3 stooges? The list can go on.

I BELIEVE that if you bring your child up like you are supposed to then, no matter what game he plays he will understand that what he/she is playing is TOTALLY FAKE! and not to believe that something like that can actually happen.

I would say there is a difference of passively watching the road runner and actively playing 50 Cents new game. Playing a game where you beat up hockers and do drive buys can have an effect on young kids development. I read a report a few weeks back where a kid killed a cop and he said something like, "Life if a video game and we all have to die sometime."

Hear is all the proof I need:

So if your children watch something, if it's a cartoon or a vidoe game it is real?

The road runner, dropping a huge rock on the coyote and the coyote getting up after being smashed into the ground is different in what? The rock is a gun?

Sorry mike, that is BULL.

The report you talk about, what was the kids background? (and lets have an link) If that is what his parents let him believe then that is what the child will believe. If the parents do not intervine on what is wright and what is wrong then how can a child know? All they see is somone getting hurt.

This discussion can go on for a long time. Do i agree with you, I do.

Is it the childs fault they do not understand, i think not, it is the parents.

These games aren't ment for kids!

there ment for people old enough to know there is a difference between a game and real life...

there is a rating system on videogames you know, parents just don't pay attention. its the same thing with anime, they figire "oh its a game, its ok for little jonny" but ya, there can be a lot of voilence or sexual themes in anime or games, just because its animated doens't make it children content.

by the way, I've played all 3 GTA games that there relistic (GTA3, GTA Vice city and GTA San andrasus), i've yet to have an erge to go out and kill a cop.

but do i do it in games? yes, why? becuase its a blood game.

i place racing games wiht friends and spin them out but i'm not going to get on the highway and start spinning people out or even racing people. (though there are idiots who do this....)

don't use games as a escape goat. people are just looking for an ecuse to play something other then themselfs/there kids for what they do....

I think both are dangerous. I am saying in a video game the kids actually perform the violence. In the new GTA, you do drive-bys, get of the car and kill the characters at point blank range.

I bet a little research would show that a large part of the customer base is underage. This is like saying that it is rated R and kids won't be able to watch. Kids will see rated R games and kids will play these games.

Yeah, but you are Canadian.

I am not saying these games are making all of our kids killers. I am saying that these games are exposing violence to young crowds and can only have a negative impact on society.

Here is a video this week. Looks just like the video game in Vegas.

You are correct Mike, but the difference is you don't see me or any other people who are my age (35) going out and dropping rocks on peoples heads.

It has alot to do with the parents and what they teach there children, right and wrong. My son is 4 and he already understands that concept.
