More of tolerance and understanding from Islam.

Cool Re: Woman slapped for not wearing veil

Disobedience to authority always causes repercussions. It may appear badly to western eyes, but rules are different in other societies. Don't be surprised.
This is something that can send shockwaves through our younger western women, who often feel they are the ones who can do the slapping! What ever happened to equal opportunity? It just hasn't caught on yet in most places.
And admit it, we all have seen women (and men for that matter) who might look much better in a burka or a veil!
The last sentence is a joke! The first paragraph is not. Most western educated men I know feel there is NEVER a reason to hit a woman!

Any feminists that want to go to muslim areas and help the women fight for "rights" be my guest. The women may welcome you! The men will probably kill you. I'm not agreeing, only warning.

Integration just lost in the Supreme Court, also. They ruled that schools can't force kids to attend classes together based solely on color. Busing still will take place, but probably based more on economic level, not specifically race. That seems to be working out in some areas. Affirmative action and reverse discrimination will soon die. Government legislating equality hasn't worked 100% yet, and probably never will. Can anyone make you love your neighbor? Nah. Not unless the neighbor behaves in a manner to justify it.

I don't see how this has much to do with Islam. In many conservative societies men feel that they have the right to use physical violence against women if the women arn't acting lady-like. It's similar to a woman getting beaten up in Korea a few years ago for smoking in public. Or the recent case in the US with a young drive through teller being hit because she didn't use please and thank you.

Re: Woman slapped for not wearing veil

Doutes,

I agree to an extent, but it is official government policy of most Islamic countries to beat women. In Saudi Arabia a woman will be beat with a stick by government employee if she is not following the rules. Many "Honor Killings" occur with policeman watching. I agree that there are many others in western society that abuse women for not following their rules, but it is not government policy. In America or Europe, the man in the video would be arrested. In Islamic countries the man gets a pat on the back by the policeman for teaching the woman a lesson.

I say it has EVERYTHING to do with Islam society! And a lot with others.
There are lots of things we had all better learn about Islam. No, of course, "All" Muslims do not follow the Fundamentalist by-the-book interpretation of the Koran. But the significant number that do, and are sworn to kill infidels, including Christians and other non- Muslims, should not be ignored. We are going to find the latin immigrant problem is the least of our worries.
