So I am starting a new website to defeat my pet peeve...
Ok, I have a HUGE problem with people flying flags that or torn, tattered, or just not flown proudly. In fact, I stop and make it known to the management of businesses as often as I can, and I have even knocked on private residence doors and asked them simply to take some pride in the flag if they want to fly it, and fly one that is presentable.
I know I am not the only one out there who is annoyed by this, so I am starting a website to get all of these people together. Heck, this could be an international effort if those of you outside the USA feel the same about your nation's flag as I do about ours. I just bought the domain a few minutes ago, so nothing is up yet... I just figured I would throw the idea out there to you guys and see if these was some support for the idea. I wanted to get the domain flywithpride.com, but it is registered to a travel agent, so I bought flagbrigade.com and flagbrigade.us, but as I said nothing is there yet... give me a week or so. ![]() |

A basically sound idea! Keep us informed!
Back in Sumter, SC, we had a patriotic used car dealer who, after 9-11, decided to put about fifty US flags around his car lot. The city had an ordi nance which was originally made to prevent such dealers from flying too many banners and little colored flags (you know the type) all over their car lots. The city tried to enforce and fine the dealer $100 a day for flying the US flags. There was a big uproar, since that wasn't the original intent of the ordnance. To make a long story short, the patriotic dealer won. |

Re: So I am starting a new website to defeat my pet peeve...
Great idea, most of the general public probably doesn't have any idea about the customs pertaining to displaying the flag. Hearts may be in the right place but a little education on it is always a good.

Turk has a good idea. Most people do not know that there is a right and a wrong way to display a flag. You could start on a "how to" theme,
and include all those rules, and the correct way to dispose of a tattered flag. Oh! By the way, aren't you glad you don't have to put up with a "Regular Forum"? You have us! We deserve the prize for "Best in Class"! ![]() Last edited by Mr. Joe : 04-26-2008 at 05:56 PM. |

Re: So I am starting a new website to defeat my pet peeve...
If you can build up the website you can get donations and have people send in their old flags and you send them a new one.
I'm a big believer that you see a problem give a solution. I think you have a great idea. I would love to see what you do with it. |

Here is one of the other forums I post on regularly... it has a VERY large non-American base of regulars, so the perspective here is quite interesting!

Re: So I am starting a new website to defeat my pet peeve...
I went to your final gear web sight and read some of the posts. Somehow I wasn't too surprized at some of the reaction. No one in the world has the same perspective on this as the American GI who is in hostile territory and when the dust clears looks up to see the stars and stripes waving from a high spot somewhere in the midst of it all. A lot of us on here have been there and it was probably in that moment when our true appreciation of it all truly came into our hearts in full. I would guess many people from other nations might not have the same feelings toward their flags and national symbols because, perhaps they really don't have any belief in what stands behind those symbols. IMHO.

Re: So I am starting a new website to defeat my pet peeve...
Yeah, I just never thought about it from the viewpoint of a non-American, so it caught me a little off guard. I'll tell you one thing though, after hearing this polar bear BS and a few other idiotic things our Government is dealing with instead of actually solving problems, I am very much less enthused with the Government, but I still love the people in the USA. Our Government just sucks though... and it makes me want to freak out on people sometimes, but I always realize that I have better things to do with my time!
