Road and Mountain biking near Osan

I will be at Osan in August. I want to find out if there are any groups that regularly ride in the area, both on and off road.

Cool Re: Road and Mountain biking near Osan

Just a note- Seoul has paved bike paths all along the Han River. Pretty nice.
My friend and his pals often ride from Yongsan all the way up to Uijongbu (Camp Red Cloud / Camp Jackson area.) I don't know, maybe 20-25 miles one way? No competition with traffic!! Osan I'm guessing is a more death-defying ride among kamikazi drivers.

Re: Road and Mountain biking near Osan

Good to hear another rider is heading over. I just arrived here myself, so I do not know of any regular "Group" that goes out although there are plenty of riders around. Both road and mountain. Most mountain bikers seem to hit an area called Brown Mountain a short ride from the main gate. I actually went out there for the first time this past weekend. It is pretty good. It will make you work. I think there is another set of trails relatively close, but have not found it yet.

The reviews at the link below, give a pretty good description of the riding.

Shoot me a message when u get over here and I'll show you the trails.

Just today noted that Yongsan PX has a new bike, $800+. I don't know one from another, but you military guys may be interested. Ask your closest PX or Bx.

I have absolutely nothing against bikes or bicyclists...

But I really wish the paths along the Han River were for pedestrians only. They simply are too narrow to have both a walking and a biking path. So you've got pedestrians (lots and lots of pedestrians) walking out there and quite a few bicyclists zinging by them, often at very unsafe speeds. It's only a short walk from my apartment, and I like to walk our dog out there, especially in the evening. I've had several close calls with bikes... and the roller skaters aren't much better... and then of course, there are those who ignore the law and ride motorbikes on that path.

Forgot to post this map that shows the bike paths (in black) along the Han River.

Re: Road and Mountain biking near Osan

Good Map !
Somewhat incomplete though, as the trail on the north side, right continues out and up towards Camp Red Cloud and Uijongbu. And another on the south side, goes down farther south near the Coex building, I believe?

Erik,

There is a group ride every Sunday at 0930. We meet in front on the on base bike shop and go to the Brown Mountain course from there.
