FTP help
I've built a site with Dreamweaver and can preview it through Dreamweaver's browser just fine. However, once I upload it with my FTP program (Filezilla), and go to the website I still get the 404 error.

Am I missing something basic? I have all my files (index.htm, images folder, allotherpages.htm) uploaded... index.htm should be the first thing the host recognizes and displays as the homepage right?

you don't use FTP to host a webpage silly :P

you use a webserver program, such as Apache

http://httpd.apache.org/


Heheh, why is linux like a Teepee, because there is no windows and apache is in the house

^^ linux has it built in

good luck!

you can also give the built in program for windows a try, i used to use it for hosting my mp3s so i could get them at school.

Sorry... I'm slightly confused right now. I thought that the hosting company's server was all I needed? I'm using the FTP to upload my files onto the server.

I've got no idea of what you just showed me is, heheh. Umm... that's software to use if you have your own server right?

I'm lost.

You need to place all of your folders and especially your index.html in your root folder. Typically, it will be in the public_html folder.

What is your domain?

The root folder? How do I designate that? For some reason I thought the root folder is the very first folder I see and that index.htm would always be recognized as the homepage. I didnt see any other files besides the log file in my FTP program before i uploaded and plopped everything onto the server.

The domain name is www.fullblastjkd.com, the host is 1and1.com

Well... looks like I discovered the problem. My friend purchased a website builder through the host that locked the domain.

I do have another question however. If you go to the site and than look at the bottom tile in windows, the button says "TERA-Q.net", do you know how I change this?
