[GI Korea] 1940's Yongsan
Great link here from the Marmot's Hole.* Anyone who has been stationed in Korea and particularly Yongsan should see this photograph of Yongsan in the 1940's.* Pretty incredible how much things have changed in 60 years. Make sure you also check out the article by probably the top Korea scholar, Andrei Lankov which describes in detail the history of Yongsan.

Re: [GI Korea] 1940's Yongsan
Hey--that's cool. You've linked to my Flickr page (some of you may recall I have posted here a few times before, mostly in search of current Yongsan photos...among others, Mr. Joe has posted some for me!
A retired guy sent me that photo; someone he knew had scanned it from a photo hanging on a wall in a Yongsan building on Main Post. Despite the differences, it's pretty easy to orient oneself. I've put a number of notes there and so have a few others. glad you found it, and my hat is off to the original photographer, the original scanner, and whoever made this publicly available! |

Re: [GI Korea] 1940's Yongsan
Very interesting!
I showed a few pics of Bucheon & Incheon to my great uncle who was in Incheon in 1951-53. He absolutely couldn't recongnize anything. Before & after shots are always fun to look at. Thanks! ![]()
