Anyone here living in Huam dong?

Just curious... I live up the hill sort of behind Yongsan High School (towards Namsam Park if that helps). Just curious if anyone else here is in the neighborhood.

Also, there is a KICK ASS Italian Restaurant right around the corner from my place. It is called il Vino Rosso, and if you have not been there you MUST try it! It is a bit on the pricey side, but worth every last won!

I just cannot emphasize enough how good that place was! If you ever want to go and cannot find it hit me up and I can show you where it is. Not sure if this will help, but it is between the Goethe Institue and the Yongsan Public Library and there are black walls around the parking lot. I go in thru the lower entrance which is about 200 feet from my house, but that is much harder to give directions to!

Welcome to the site, enjoy and please let us in on more restraunts!!!

How pricey is pricey? Like how much for 2 adults and a child for a meal?

Re: Anyone here living in Huam dong?

Well, my meal was 25,000 won and it was about the average price per meal. We also got a bottle of red wine (it was Australian) and that was 70,000 won. I think our total bill for 3 adults (including the wine and ice cream for dessert) was 140,000 won, but if you subtract the wine it would have been 70,000.

I also found a place called Uncle Joe's near the Millenium Hilton. They serve German style sausge and what not and they have German beer too! I got a sausage and vegetable platter when I was there (this was for dinner not lunch, they are different menus) and a coke to go with it and paid 18,000 won total and I was STUFFED!

I would recommend that place too!

Re: Anyone here living in Huam dong?

Man both places sound good. 70,000 won is not bad for a good meal.

Kepp the good places coming ssnapier, they will be appreicated.

You should also get with Mike and maybe write a review of each restraunt?

Re: Anyone here living in Huam dong?

Welcome Aboard, SS!
I work near Yongsan HS, behind the big YS wall. I seldom eat out in Huam Dong, but the Potato Soup place near the corner is more my style. Pork Ribs and Potato and greens-hot and very filling for W5000! It is on the same side going up hill toward The Boston Pub, which is pictured in my Seoul Photos in the gallery. (The photo with the car parked on the sidewalk is The Boston.) My wife likes to go up to the ShiJang (Market) further up the hill. She would NEVER EVER pay over $10.00 for spaghetti, so we don't eat out much at all.
I don't mind, because she learned to cook from my mother, and is probably the best cook on earth! Her family is full of restaurant owners-at Osan and in the US. They say the Italian Restaurant near my house, next to the Lexus Dealership in Itaewon is really good, too. Keep reviwing Huam Dong. We need that. How is the Domino's down toward Han Nam Ro?

It was linguine not spaghetti and there was perfectly cooked lobster tail to go with it! LOL

I have not tried Domino's yet (do they typically speak any english?)

Where the heck is the Boston Pub and the soup place in relation to Worribank? I just spent $160 at the commissary so eating out is not a big priority at the moment, but when i get my bicycle here, that will be a different story alltogether!

I also got brochures for Tokebi Storm and Nanta. I wish the tickets were not quite so much... I will eventually see both of these shows, but if someone has already seen one or both of them please share your experience.

Re: Anyone here living in Huam dong?

OK- I am figuring it out. Woori (OOHDEE) Bank (means OUR BANK in English) I think is across the street (East side) from the Soup place and Boston. Starting at the YS High School entrance, walking UPHILL towards Seoul Station the soup place is the first small food place on your left just after the hardware store.
Boston Pub is another 100 feet up, also on the left. Never been inside. Suspect it could or should be off limits to military. If you can go to the Commissary, you can walk or bike to our little snack bar on Camp Coiner. Go in gate 20, just up from YS HS entrance, and go straight through,no turns until you hit the end. Snack bar is on your left. Burgers, Anthonys Pizza, small PX. Cheaper than Dominos, and you can drink the water! The W70,000 Australian wine is mucho cheaper! If you are new, you need to walk down from YS HS toward Han Gang Ro, turn left at the main street light, and explore all the way down to gate 1 and The USO across the street. There is KFC, Pizza Hut, Outback, Bowling Alley, and much more. Money talks, no English necessary. Pocket dictionary, maybe.

Re: Anyone here living in Huam dong?

I work on Camp Kim and ate lunch at the USO today. I have walked that street a few times already. I just checked the off-limits listing and Boston is not on it.

I know which snack bar you are referring to, and what do you mean by "our" do you work there?
