Cool News this week in Yongsan

Easter Services this weekend- eggroll, other goodies. Cherry blossoms are out, but still pink- maybe out by Sunday?? Drive by the Dragon for a buffet, or just enjoy the PX and the Food in the Town House in front of the PX.
I hope the weather is nice.

Shsong: go to : www.dragonhilllodge.com
page 2-click on RESTAURANTS
This is the Hotel on Yongsan. Your brother has been there.
Buffet means a table with many choices of foods.
A second meaning of buffet can be a piece of furniture where the food sits.
A third meaning might be "buffeting", like being moved by high wind.

Thanks a lot. It's pretty good place. But I look like don't come in there because of expensive price.
By the way, I love Buffet because I can eat a many food with little money.

Cool Re: News this week in Yongsan-Buffets

Yes, the Dragon Hill is not a cheap place to eat dinner. People from large US cities might disagree. And Seoul is even higher!
Now the Subway and the Pizza Hut are moderately priced. You can get by with only $5 or $6 if you do not get chips or a soft drink.

I lived in South Carolina, where Ryan's Buffet was $7.00, two years ago. It was wonderful. US buffets do not have a time limit, as the Korean buffets do!
Usually there are many choices of meat and vegetables and desserts. All you can eat!

(You have to explain the Korean buffet with a time limit to our other readers-Americans will be surprised! ) How much does it cost per person?

Re: News this week in Yongsan

I'm staying at the Dragon next week (wed-thur night). It's a good little place to visit, although the rooms in my opinion are not 5 star quality. I have had rooms at the Hampton Inn that are just as good or better.

Now, everything else that goes with the Dragon is taken to the extreme. Everything thing else is 5 star quality.

The time to eat at the Dragon is when they have there evening specials at the bar. Snack food, but will fill you up.

Cool Re: News this week in Yongsan Friday addition!!!

O.K. this may be the best time to celebrate Cherry Blossoms and Easter together at Yongsan! www.dragonhilllodge.com and here is more-
Go to http://english.tour2korea.com/index.asp
Info on tours, festivals more! The Yoido Spring Flower Festival is 6-15 April!
Seoul's Mounted Police will parade on horseback along the blossom-laden avenue! There will be magic shows, skaters, dances, acrobatics, along the 5.7 Km Avenue.Fireworks on the 15th to end it. See above website.
Cheap bunks are available from Walker Center Annex and Walker Center at Yongsan DSN 736-1047 (By the Fire Station.) ID holders only.
There are Korea Youth Hostel Rooms for $40 double and less downtown. http://www.hostelsweb.com/countries/southkorea.html Outside Gate 1, cross the street and turn Right about two blocks see the hotel ELLE INN just past the USO. 80,000 won rooms. Behind there, just up the street are smalller hotels, about 50,000 won.
Do not use motels within 2 blocks of either side of Yongsan Train Station. Off Limits to USFK personnel. You know.
Outside gate 19, and even in Itaewon cheaper rooms are available if you can stand like a $39 Indian motel in America. Across from Mc Donald's and up the hill past The Computer Shop are two Korean motels. read 여 관. Upstairs above McDonald's is the Seoul Motel. Small, Double. Maybe 40,000. If you are single, and just want a flophouse for $20, PM me for guidance.

Cool Re: News this week in Yongsan

It is 9AM Saturday! Good Morning Viet Nam! Er- I mean SEOUL!

Seriously, as I look out over Yongsan Post from my window on the hill near Gate 3, where I watched fireworks from near Yoido (the little island East of the Han River Bridge) last night, I see reduced visibility compared to last night. It appears the "Hang-sa" (Yellow sand) from Mongolia is back again, obscuring the atmosphere and fighting the sun for prominence.

Good Friday was clear and sunny. "The curtain of the Temple was rent... and He was laid to rest...." If we can actually draw parallels- tomorrow(Easter Sunday), Seoul should rise again from the Cloud of sand, and bask in the sunshine! I hope!

In the meantime it looks like we should stay inside and protect our respiratory system with the windows shut once again. Do wear a mask when you must go out. I say it's OK to stop in an "Off Limits" Korean Drug store just long enough to get a mask. (mok-myung?) They are not great, but better than nothing. 2000 Won.

I'm upset that this Communist scourge should visit us near the peak of Cherry Blossom time!

Update 0930- visibility is getting worse less tha 2 miles now -darn.

Re: News this week in Yongsan

Mr. Joe this is a great post you are making!!

Not sure about the sand, may just be dismal weather.

The Youngsan chart says yellow sand right now is well below 50.

Re: News this week in Yongsan

Sure hope you are right! The Sun now at 11:15 seems to be winning the battle, but I still can't see two miles.

I just don't trust the weathermen much.
