Re: Giving birth at 121

Sorry for the confusion. I meant that they didn't have room at the storks nest. We are going back up to 121 on the 6th for her 38th week check up. They were all booked so we have to go in on a walk in basis, which I guess isn't any different then not having an appointment other then the fact that we'll probably have to wait a while to be seen.

Re: Giving birth at 121

I've never had to wait any longer with a walk in appointment than with a regular appointment. I guess it can be different, depending on which doctor. Dr. Kim seems to always be running a bit behind. I don't like Throop-- if you ca nget away with NOT seeing her, I'd suggest that! :)

How does making appointments work? Can you make an appointment to see a specific doctor?

Re: Giving birth at 121

When you make an appointment, specifically say what Dr. you want to see and they'll find an appointment with that doctor. However, walk-appointments are all done by a certain doctor on a certain day. The walk-in doctor is in charge of emergency appointments and deliveries for that day. I've heard WONDERFUL things about Dr. Flowers but haven't met him yet. Everyone I've talked to says I should see him, but I haven't been able to get in when he had appointments available.

I have only ever made appointments after my appointment up at 121. After you get done with your appointment, you just go back to the receptionist desk and tell them you need an appointment in ____ weeks. For the people who are at different bases, you can get reimbursed for travel expenses. I get about $15 back each appointment for bus and taxi fares. I just fill out a form at the Tricare office at the hospital here at Osan. After lots of appointments, the fees really add up. I was told they'd pay for my husband's fees, as well. I was reimbursed for his once, and then the next time they said they wouldn't pay. But I go alone to most appointments, and its only an extra $9 for his bus fare.

Re: Giving birth at 121

I guess since it was our first visit the last time it we didn't have anything to compare it to. The white female doc that we saw seemed pretty nice. I don't remember her name just that she was white and had glasses. If we get someone different on the 6th I guess we'll have a comparison, and since it's on a walkin basis I guess it's up in the air on who we see. 14 more days!

Re: Giving birth at 121

I had my first appointment today. It was with MAJ Throop, who is a nurse practitioner. She was great! Very friendly, funny, & easygoing, and she didn't try to force a bunch of tests down my throat that I'd already declined. Yay!

I am glad you had a good experience with her! I certainly didn't, and when I got a questionairre in the mail about my visit, I didn't hesitate to tell them exactly what she was like for me. She made me cry. Granted, I am a bit emotional right now. :) But, even DH was upset when we left.

Oh, and I saw Dr. Thompson on Monday and she was wonderful. If I haven't given birth by Wednesday, I should get to meet Dr. Elliot.

Re: Giving birth at 121

Wow! I'm sorry your appointment didn't go well. That's the thing I hate about being stuck in Korea - we don't have too many options. Good for you for letting them know how you feel! Who knows? Maybe that's why she was so nice to me.

Re: Giving birth at 121

I think some people just "click" with certain doctors, some people don't. Especially when it comes to obstetrics! But, I am glad that you liked her. Dr. Kim is really nice, its just hard to understand him a lot since he is Korean. You'll probably end up meeting them all by the time you deliver.

That's cool, thanks for the encouragement - I see him next time.
