Re: Giving birth at 121

My first 2 pregnancies were over $13,000 each! Imagine if I had to pay for all of that out of pocket. Its nice having tricare! That included all appointments and ultrasounds, along with deliveries.

Re: Giving birth at 121

We've been going to the Cha fertility center in Seoul for the last 7 months. We've done two procedures, an IUI that didn't work and an IVF that did work. We've spent about $3500 all together. In the states we probably would have spent 20 grand.

Re: Giving birth at 121

Alright alright already I get the point everyone. Korea has great hospitals with great people who all speak 10 different languages and are very very affordable compared to the states :) It's so cheap out here I'm actually trying to talk the wife into a second before we leave. :)

Re: Giving birth at 121

For those of you that have delivered at 121, what are the rules for who is allowed in the delivery room? Does anyone know what is typical at Korean hospitals? Is it customary for fathers to be in the delivery room? Or other people like my mom?

We were told at one of my prenatal appointments at 121 that only my husband was to be allowed in the delivery room. And no children were allowed unless in cases of extreme circumstances. I know of people though that had friends with them in the delivery room because there husbands couldn't be there. I think you'd just have to call 121 and ask what the true policy is.

As far as Korean hospitals go, I've heard that it's customary for males not to be present during labor. The American women that I've known you've delivered off base have said they just told the hospital staff they wanted their husbands to be there and it was no problem. I don't know about other family members.

Re: Giving birth at 121

I had my second appt today & saw Dr Kim. Very funny, very common sense, and very encouraging. Also, his manner of speaking reminded me of my Italian grandmother, though she's slightly easier to understand. :) My next appt is with Dr Chung - anyone know her?

Re: Giving birth at 121

For those of you that have already given birth at 121, were any of you charged for your inpatient stay? I recieved two seperate bills one for my wife and one for my newborn. It's a small fee for giving birth there but when we called 121 about the bill to see how I can get a reciept that they were paid they said that my bill was a bill/reciept. I told them that I wanted another reciept that said I had a zero balance due so I can show TRICARE that I paid for it when I submit my claim. The lady on the phone said that wouldn't get refunded the money by tricare. I don't think she works for tricare some I'm headed there later today to ask the question.

Just wondering if anyone here paid the bill and then got money back from TRICARE. Both of them were charged $44.40 so if we don't get the money back it's not a huge deal.

Re: Giving birth at 121

I only gave birth 3 weeks ago, but I have never received a bill from a military hospital. Thats odd. I thought it was supposed to be completely free as long as you were on Tricare?

Re: Giving birth at 121

That's what I thought, and if we do have to pay for my wife since she's under standard I can understand. But our newborn is under prime for 60 days so I don't know why she wouldn't be covered 100%.

And the lady at 121 that we talked to was horrible.
