Re: Mail delivery (venting)

My Sports Illustrated is very weird. I will get the current issue on time then not get an issue for two weeks. I then will get three issues at one time. I think someone is reading them and when they finish they send them out. Mail has been an issue in Korea before.

Re: Mail delivery (venting)

They only issue I ever seem to have with the mail is my magazines. I can never get them on time. I just received BOTH the June and July issues of Parent's in the mail today.

Re: Mail delivery (venting)

The package from hell story

I was command-sponsored in 2ID and my family was living at Yongsan (don't ask how I got the CSP in 2ID - it's a very long story).

I thought my family would need a mailbox in Yongsan, so I went to PSC 450 (next to the theater) and got a box for them. Of course, I also received mail at my unit in 2ID. Since I had already gotten all of my mail switched over to the 2ID address, that's where all the mail went. The address at PSC 450 basically went unused, so I never checked it during that two years I was in 2ID.

I ordered the parts to build a computer. One by one they arrived - everything except the motherboard. I was really getting frustrated because I was chomping at the bit to get this computer built and that one part was holding me back. I called the company where I ordered the part and they said they wouldn't ship another one until one month had gone by. I waited and waited... finally a month had gone by. I wasn't happy with the service from that company where I ordered the motherboard, so I ordered it from a different company. I had to write off the loss of the first motherboard because I didn't get insurance. But the second one arrived safe and sound, so at least I was able to build my new computer.

Fast forward ahead around three months...

I was walking across a parking lot at Camp Red Cloud and saw a soldier (from an entirely different unit) cleaning out a conex. He was really working up a sweat, so I stopped to chat with him for a minute. He had everything cleared out of the conex and stacked up outside. While I was chatting with him, I noticed a box with my name on it. Guess what it was? My original motherboard!! I asked him how did it get in his conex. He said he had no idea - it had been in there for several weeks.

I called the company and told them I finally got the motherboard, but no longer needed it. They said to send it back and I would get a refund. So I did that.

I called after a couple of weeks, and the company said it hadn't arrived yet.

I waited a few more weeks and called again - same story.

After a couple of months of calling, I came to the conclusion that it got lost in the mail on the way back ~ and I was still screwed on that one.

Fast forward ahead another month.

It's a Saturday and I'm at my apartment in the Yongsan area spending the weekend with my family. I get a call on my cellphone. It's PSC 450 in Yongsan (how'd they get my cell number??) telling me I have a package at the PSC that's been there for a couple of months, and if I don't pick it up soon, it's going to be returned. I'm wondering... who in the world sent me a package to this address??

I zip on over to the PSC ~ and it's the motherboard that I tried to return from my company mailroom in 2ID a couple of months prior. I explain to the clerk at PSC 450 that I was trying to return the package to the original sender ~ I even pointed out where I wrote "return to sender" on the package. He said not to worry. He'd send it out right away.

A week later it shows back up at my unit mailroom in 2ID.

I'm getting a little frustrated at this point. So instead of asking my unit mailroom clerk to handle it - I go to the main post office at Camp Red Cloud, explain the whole story, and ask them to send it back. They said they'll take care of it.

A few days later it shows back up at my unit mailroom.

I'm beyond frustration at this point. It's the package from hell. What do I have to do to get the damn thing off of the Korean Peninsula?!?

I took it back to the main post office and this time I bypassed the clerks at the counter and went to the NCOIC's office. I explained the whole story (which took a few minutes). It has now been several months since the package was originally sent.

Mercifully, this time it made it back to the original sender and I got my refund.

No, I've always left my name and email address. I don't give them my phone number though. You should leave your name, you'd be surprised at how quickly they respond and correct the situation. Although with the mail one all I have gotten was excuses. We ate at Tommy D's one day for their Korean buffet and they ran out of food at noon and they didn't have any plates to use for 30 minutes. I used ICE on that and the manager gave me a $25 gift certificate to use at any MWR facility I wanted. I also use ICE to complement places I use too. Like a really helpful worker at ASC or the library, the ladies at Pack N Wrap and also the Thanksgiving buffet at AMC. Although no one has ever replied back to positive comment I've left.

That doesn't surprise me that they don't comment to positive comments. I think that's rare. Hopefully they atleast share the positive comments w/whomever gave the great service I'll have to start leaving my name. Yesterday we waited for service at baskin robbins for prob 15 minutes. The hubby and another guy entered that info into ICE. Previously I've only used it once because of the taxis. It seems that our money is not as important because we're offpost. So we've had to wait past 40 minutes before to have one come to the house. Also, it seems there aren't any on fridays and saturdays at the px OR the commisary! They're all up at the walkthru gate and we all know why that is No biggie though...just annoying. Anyways, I'm going to start leaving my name.

Re: Mail delivery (venting)

9 times out of 10 the unit mail clerk is the problem, and sometimes it is just the fact that the mail clerk is dealing with mail stuff plus their regular job, and they really don't give a crap about your mail. I happen to have a dedicated clerk in my unit (that is her only job) so it works quite nicely.
