Re: Columbus Day!

I was too busy getting ready for the Air Show at Osan (6 Oct) to find out.
I don't know if you can access the Yongsan calendar on govt computer. I'll check tomorrow. That community book available at the PX and by Taco Bell in the snack bar has a calendar.

Re: Columbus Day!

The best info I found says there will be a "Pre-Octoberfest" on the 6th I think, at the Dragon in the afternoon.
There will be a parade, fireworks, and entertainment around the Collier Gym on the 6th. Kids stuff, too. They call it Fall Feastival.
(The real Octoberfest is the next two weekends, after 6PM)

The 6th is also the annual "Retirees Appreciation Day". There will be gifts and prizes at the buffet and at the PX on the 6th. There will be same day free dental checkups ,also! I'm going for the free food at Reggies, (Retirees and Spouses) , then maybe on to Osan for the Air Power Show! It is Sat and Sunday.

Downtown Itaewon is having a Street Food Festival out by the Fire Station-just beyond the Hamilton Hotel. Korean food, Aussie Burgers, Fries, Beer, etc.
This will be Oct 4, 5, 6, & 7th! Check behind the Hamilton also!

Columbus Day is a sham!! They teach you in school that 1492 Columbus and his three ships sailed from Spain and landed in America while looking for a shorter route to India. In actuality landed in the Bahamas (?). He didn't reach the mainland til his third try which I am guessing he still thought was India since he named the locals "Indians" (dork). He didn't even discover the mainland, as obviously the Natives knew about it, and the Vikings had been there far before Columbus. Basically it just another thing they only give us the "nice" version of in school.

The only good thing about Columbus day is the longer weekend. OK I feel much better getting that off my chest. I included some links if you want to know more.
