Re: Working at 2ID and residing in Hannam Village?
He was an E-7 infantryman working in the Division Operations Center. So it was because of where he was working, not his rank or MOS. I don't think he came to Korea command sponsored, I think it was something he got after working there for a while.

Re: Working at 2ID and residing in Hannam Village?
We took the bus from CRC to Yongsan - it wasn't bad at all, but they do charge you $4-7 (I can't remember). It's probably a better bet than the subway, which was long with all of those stops. We took that while I was over there - Yongsan Station all the way to Uijeongbu Station.

If you take the bus, you have to make the trip from Hannam Village to the bus station, which probably means your spouse has to get up and give you a ride at O'dark thirty. If you have little ones at home, they have to come along with the spouse. And as you mentioned, it costs a lot more than the train. If you take the train, the trip does take longer. But it's cheaper and you can catch it without needing someone to give you a ride. Once you get to Uijongbu, you have to jump on a bus to get to the CRC gate though. I tried it both ways. My routine eventually became always taking the train. The station was a two minute walk from my apartment. It wasn't crowded because almost everyone is coming into Seoul in the morning - and I was going in the opposite direction - so I always had a seat. I always had a book or a newspaper to pass the time. There was only one change (in Chang-dong). The bus ride from Uijongbu Station was easy - there were three different buses that all stopped at CRC's main gate, so the wait was never more than a few minutes and the ride itself took around ten minutes. |
