Namdaemun Market
Helloooo, I was just wondering...how far is the Namdaemun Market from Yongsan Base? Can I take a taxi from the base to the Market? Or do I need to hop on a train to get there?

Re: Namdaemun Market
It's less than $5 from the PX in a Taxi. They will even give you a card so you can call them back and the taxi will pick you up where they dropped you off.
I'm sure that you can take the subway also, someone on here will give you directions.

Re: Namdaemun Market
My husband showed me this interactive map to find bus routes to anywhere in Seoul, it also will give you subway options as well.
http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteW...nglish/map.jsp I am still trying to figure it out myself, though. I have yet to venture out "alone" on the bus or subway. But for those more adventurous and a little more tech savvy this should be easy. |

Just an FYI, do not try to use that interactive map on anything other than Internet Explorer, it will not work!

This is the best I've found for the subway:

Re: Namdaemun Market
Thanks so much! I'm planning to take a bus from Osan to Yongsan, then take a taxi from the base to the market since it's less than $5.
Is Myeong-Dong far from Yongsan Base? Can I also take a base taxi from Yongsan to Myeong-Dong? |

Re: Namdaemun Market
From the Coiner side of base, go out the gate near the high school and catch the 202 bus. It will take you right there (after a quick u-turn). The name of the stop for Namdaemun is Hoehyeon, but I am petty sure it says Namdaemun too.
You will make a right turn by the Hilton, and go down a hill. The 1st or 2nd stop after the Hilton will put you right at the market. I would say look for the Namdaemun gate, but since it burned down, look for the giant wall around a burned out hulk... on your left, the market is on your right. |

Re: Namdaemun Market
Myong Dong is literally a few blocks from Namdaemun... and any taxi driver can get you there.

Re: Namdaemun Market
I'd venture to say with Seoul traffic...you could walk there faster than taking a taxi...especially if a taxi isn't already waiting at the taxi stand.

Re: Namdaemun Market
Answers to questions:
Myeong Dong is not much farther than Nam Dae Mun Market (Hoehyeon). Yes , of course you can take any taxi from the Post Bus Station. (The smaller Korean Private cabs are a little cheaper.) BEWARE! Any way you get downtown is OK. Your problem begins when you have many bags and you want to RETURN to Yongsan! RULE 1: NEVER, NEVER GET IN A FULL SIZE BLACK LUXURY TAXI! THEY COST DOUBLE! RULE 2; Now there ARE taxis that say INTERPRETER AVAILABLE by Phone on the window. That might work, or, it might not. The Korean Taxi companies CANNOT enter Yongsan Post, except for the 4 or 5 individuals cabs that are working now on post. There is no way you can get to a Yongsan Gate unless you speak Korean or can make the driver understand a landmark near the gate you want. They may stop at the Gate. Then you will have to walk in, and call a post taxi. Trying to get a post taxi to pick you up downtown just isn't possible unless you are at a specific landmark, like (Chosen Hotel front door). The subway is only 900 won, and learning to ride it is easy only if you ride for a while with an experienced local. The exits are near Yongsan gate 7 (Noksapyong); gate 1 (Samgakchi); gate 17 (Ichon) (NOT Inchon!) and Shin Yongsan Station-exit 1 is by Gate 19. My advice 1. -get WRITTEN KOREAN instructions on how to return to a particular gate, in your possession, before leaving the confines of Yongsan! A landmark MUST be specified. Korean Taxi Drivers generally have no idea about GATE NUMBERS! 2. get a Korean with a post pass to shop with you, or 3. call me on Saturday! Ignorance is not bliss in Korea. It is disaster. ![]() Last edited by Mr. Joe : 03-11-2008 at 01:00 PM. |
