Unhappy Caution! Itaewon Robber & Rapist !

A Neighbor just informed me that some Yongsan DOD School Teachers Apartments were recently robbed, and a lady living nearby was raped! One culprit was surprised by the occupant. He escaped, but was identified as a NIGERIAN!
Moral - be sure your security cameras and door locks are operating properly, and don't leave windows open while sleeping! Especially if you don't have a guard or a large dog!

It seems there is a lot of problems with Nigerians in Itaewon. I have a black, American friend who says they are a big problem. Why the large influx of Nigerians into Seoul?

South Korea is one of the safest countries I have had the privilege living in. I guess it is easy to forget that even the safest countries have criminals.

That may be the problem.

They may have found out/figured out and are looking to make money quick.

Question Nigerians bad news?

Don't know. I certainly won't paint them all with one brush. Some are members of a church, dress very well and hand out invitations to their church. I don't know how most make their living. I hear they often take low paying jobs, and some sell jewelry on the street here. As I told you before, some are involved in stolen credit cards. And we all know some of the bars in Itaewon do not want them, because some have used the bad credit cards, and some have bad manners when they drink. (Perhaps not unlike some GI's?)
If someone has correct information on why Nigerians are attracted to Korea, I would be interested in being educated.

This is not so unusual but unexpected indeed.........
Look at the influx of Russians? I have my own thoughts on that.
How about the Middle Easterners............

Just like the Turks in Germany, or the Mexicans here in the US, Korea has now become the land of opportunity.

Wink Re: Caution! Itaewon Robber & Rapist !

Most Nigerians may have good intentions and come here to improve their lot, I don't know. Koreans have always had little respect for darker races, and still do. I won't belabor that. If a few act badly, the whole race will be blamed. Bad apples can eventually spoil the whole basket.

For certain reasons, the Middle Eastern Population here appears minimal. Apparently most are involved in the restaurant business. There is one Mosque, in Itaewon. Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) the Boxer, assisted in that back in the 70's. It is probably difficult for Muslims to gain a foothold here, I suspect. I'm not sure there would be an advantage for them to convert members from the Korean populace.
Christianity has a good foothold here. Muslims look, and act much differently, and don't have much to offer modern Koreans. If you already have everything, why would you want to wear a robe and cover your face, and pray three times a day? Korean women are breaking out from the submissive pattern of old. Check out Miss Korea at the Miss Universe Pageant on Sunday. (New photos in the Gallery)! No burka for her!

I am not rasist, but Nigerians are showen in a bad light becuase most of them are con artist. Most thouse emails you get trying to get your bank information are from Nigeria. For some reason they fell that stealing is a valid form of income. It's just what I read.
