Some Hannam residents given option to move off base

Due to the problem with water, residents of Hannam are able to move off base.

Quote:
Some residents at this military housing base will be allowed to move off base following complaints about sewage backups, insect problems and water leaks in their high-rise buildings, said the U.S. Army commander in charge of facilities in the Seoul area.

But government-funded private housing will not be automatic for all of the 1,000 servicemembers, family members, contractors and civilian workers now living at Hannam, said Col. Ron Stephens, Area II Support Activity commander.

If Hannam was occupied by non-USFK folks, i.e., Korean citizens, they would have been torn down and rebuilt a long time ago. How old are they? Must be going on 30 years.

That is so true...just like when they wiped out "Riverside Apt's" in Dongbu Ichondong (right after it was all freshly renovated, too!) and turned in into LG (now GS) Xii Apt's.

Out of curiosity, I asked a realtor about those LG apartments in Dongbu. The largest ones (97 pyong - roughly 3,500 sq. ft.) go for USD $4 million. 75 pyong are $3 mil, and so on down the line accordingly. There is one very small section of 25 pyong apartments there as well (in only one building) - because the developers were required to include a section of "affordable family housing" in order to get approval to build. Ha!!

Talking

It doesn't matter what the US will have to pay to move those who are living in sewage. If you are one who is, write your congressman now, and explain in detail what your living conditions are and how long they have been promising you relief. Whether or not the move ever comes about to PyongTeak has no bearing on your predicament. Just get it elevated to your representative, with a copy to the secretary of the Army.
