[GI Korea] Hongdae to Be Put Back On Limits?

Published: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 10:03:47 +0000

Watch out English teachers because you may soon lose your monopoly on the girls at Hongdae if USFK Command Sergeant Major Barry Wheeler has his way:

U.S. Forces Korea’s top enlisted soldier said Wednesday that he will ask the command about allowing members of the U.S. military community to visit Seoul’s Hongdae neighborhood again.
Command Sgt. Maj. [...]

Trust me buddy. Lots of GIs are still in Hongdae. They just go to clubs other than Stompers now. Go to Tin Pan 1, Tin Pan 2, Q-Vos. I hear my co-workers talk about it all the time. GIs just tend to spread out more now.

Also, Hongdae is not off limits...it's just off limits after 9pm. Who stays out later than 9pm?

Re: [GI Korea] Hongdae to Be Put Back On Limits?

I remember when every bar on hooker hill was "on limits" and nobody left Itaewon because there wasn't a curfew. If USFK really wants to have better control of GIs then just lift the curfew. Most people will stay in Itaewon just because they can....there were alot less "incidents" back then...or at least they never made the news. Nowadays GIs are roaming further out into Seoul and getting into drunken scuffles with cab drivers, Korean nationals, each other, etc. When I first came here Itaewon was pretty much run by GIs. During my first trip to Hongdae back in 2001 I didn't see another GI in sight. That's because GIs didn't have to leave Itaewon. They just stayed there all night then went back to the base in the morning...
