unaccompanied R&R flight out of pocket?
We are requesting CS. In the process now. It that doesn't go through, will we have to pay for my husbands flight home when he comes to visit?
I know there is SPACE A flights but I hear they can be unreliable. He will be getting a Command there so he won't have much time to waste away from his job. thanks |

If he plans well ahead of time and and buys the ticket early, and doesn't fly during the tourist season - he should be OK.

Re: unaccompanied R&R flight out of pocket?
In August of 2006, I paid right around $1100 for a round trip ticket from Seoul to Atlanta. That was through American Airlines purchased from the AA ticket agent in Songtan.

Re: unaccompanied R&R flight out of pocket?
Wow, that doesn't seem fair to me. That policy needs to change. He'll be there for 18 months if we can't accompany him so I would love to see him twice in that time. What is a non-tourist time? Anyone do Space A from the states to Korea? I would love to visit him and bring our kids but the commerical flights would be too expensive for the three of us. How is for dependents to fly Space A? Thanks

Quote:
Space A can go incredibly well - you can arrive, be on a plan a few hours later, and at your destination just as fast as if you flew commercial. But more often than not, it takes several days - during which you're sitting in a terminal...wishing you had flown commercial. Like most things in life, it's all about planning and being well informed. If you just show up at your nearest MAC terminal expecting to fly to Korea that day ~ you're probably going to be sorely disappointed. You need to find out which Air Force bases have frequent flights to Korea, when those flights are scheduled to depart, and how often do those flights have empty seats. Now......you might be told, "Travis Air Force Base has daily flights to Korea and they always have lots of empty seats." But when you get there, there are no flights with empty seats for the next two weeks. You just never know. You have to be extremely flexible when flying Space-A. To include situations like you're flying to Korea via Hawaii, the plane arrives in Hawaii, and all of a sudden it's been diverted to Germany. So now you're stuck in Hawaii - and you can complain all you want - and in the end you're right back where you started. |
